Digital Imaging

Digital Image Editing and Sharing:
  • PhotoScape is a free image editor that is easy to use and offers nice features.
  • Adobe Photoshop Online offers a few of the features of Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements, two of the best photo editors available. It also allows the user to share pictures with friends and family. This free tool does not install software but allows all editing to be done online. You must create a free account to log in and use the software for your own pictures. For frequently asked questions concerning this service, click here.
  • Be Funky is a site which requires an account but offers many free image manipulations. You can change an image into a cartoon sketch, pencil drawing, watercolor, and more. The focus of this site is photograph special effects.
  • Microsoft Photo Story 3 is a FREE software download available from Microsoft. This software allows the individual to create digital "stories" combining pictures, music, narration, and words to create a multimedia display that can be saved to CD, DVD, emailed, posted on a web page, or played on a computer. NOTE: The user must have Windows Media Player 10 or higher installed for Photo Story to work properly. Also, Photo Story will not allow video clips to be added to a presentation (use Windows Movie Maker instead).
  • Picasa by Google is a FREE software program that allows easy, basic editing of digital pictures. Additionally, the software can organize your pictures, share images with others, and electronically send pictures for development to Kodak, Walmart, and others.
  • Windows Image Resizer for Windows XP is a FREE program that will enable you to change the size of images on your computer. You can shrink photos to make them easier to transmit by email or place onto web pages. If you visit this download site, scroll down and look for the download link on the right side list of items. See the "User Guide" section below for how to use this software. If you are running Vista or Windows 7 (either 32 bit or 64 bit) Microsoft did not make a new resizer. However, several folks have adapted the old resizer for the new operating systems. Here's a download link if you use Vista or Windows 7: Image Resizer for Vista/Win 7
  • Tux Paint is a kid friendly program for creating digital art. This is a simple paint program that does not require extensive computer/Windows knowledge.
  • GIMP is an open source (free) program that is similar to Photoshop. It allows extensive editing of pictures.
  • Paint.NET is an open source (free) image editing program. You may have to install the Microsoft .NET framework to your computer. You will be prompted during install if this is the case.
  • JING is a screen capture utility.
